MTV News Hires Jason Kaufman As New Vice President Of Daily News

MTV News today announced the hiring of Jason Kaufman to the newly created position of Vice President of Daily News. Kaufman previously served as General Manager and Editor in Chief of AOL's PopEater.

MTV News is the authority for music, movies and pop culture news for the Millennial audience, producing a diverse mix of daily news stories, insider specials, weekly series, live red carpet shows, exclusive music video and movie premieres, as well as exclusive artist and celebrity interviews on-air, online, via mobile and across social media. The unit has experienced tremendous growth year-over-year (57-percent increase in unique visitors; 32-percent increase in video streams), fueled largely by its innovative, interactive new initiative, "MTV First."

"MTV First" embraces the channel's short-form legacy with live four-minute, on-air exclusive interviews that expand in real-time to long-form, online live streams. Since January, "MTV First" has featured Lil Wayne, Foo Fighters, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Robert Pattinson, plus the recently announced Taylor Lautner, as well as online-only live stream, "RapFix Live."

Beginning May 2, Kaufman will serve alongside Ryan Kroft, Vice President of Specials, Series and Special Projects, and report to Benjamin Wagner, Senior Vice President of MTV News.

In this role, Kaufman will helm MTV News' multiplatform daily news operations, including reporting, writing, shooting, and production of on-air and online video packages, articles and blogs. In addition, he will undertake expanding MTV News' product development and emerging platforms, partnerships and syndication.

"Jason has incredibly-strong digital roots," Wagner said. "We're counting on his editorial sensibilities, wealth of news experience, and deep sense of what's important to our audience to hyper-fuel the award-winning team already in place, and draw on the access, authority and expertise inherent to MTV News to deliver the best music, movies and pop-culture breaking news and features to fans."

"MTV News has broken the news on many of the biggest pop culture moments of my lifetime," Kaufman said. "I'm thrilled to join the team, and help guide their current and future audience through countless more."

In his previous position, Kaufman created PopEater.com in 2008 and led a team of editors, designers, product leads, writers and producers in all aspects of site operations from original programming creation and business development to content strategy and syndication efforts. Prior to PopEater, Kaufman developed entertainment news coverage for multiple Web properties, including AOL News, Moviefone, AOL Music and AOL Television. Kaufman has also held positions at AOL Entertainment, MSN, US Magazine and Entertainment Weekly.

Kaufman holds a Bachelor of Science in Television, Radio and Film Production from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Remembering Da Grin: One Year Later

HIS LIFE
Though he was called by different aliases such as Barack O’Grin, Chief Executive Omoita (C.E.O), Misofuyin and others, Oladapo Olaitan Olanipekun was popularly known as Da Grin.
He attended Rosemary Nursery and Primary School and Good Shepherd Nursery and Primary School, then Community High School and Egbado College for his secondary education. Born into a polygamous home with his mother being the second wife, Life for him was not a bed of roses; Da Grin’s attempts to gain admission into a tertiary institution hit the rocks due to financial and family issues. He did however study in a computer institution somewhere around Lagos State. He later decided to invest his time and effort in music since he loved music and writing lyrics.

Like many other artistes, the beginning was rough for Da Grin; his first album titled ‘Still on the Matter’ did not live up to expectation. He was however not discouraged but went back to the studio to record his sophomore album titled ‘Chief Executive Omoita (C.E.O)’ which was signed to his label Misofunyin Entertainment and managed by Edlyne Records. With C.E.O, he caught the attention of the Nigerian music industry and performed in many shows in and outside Lagos. And soon after that, most artistes wanted him on their album and singles.

During his brief career in the Nigeria’s music industry, Da Grin featured dozens of musicians including Kenny Saint Brown, 9ice, Oluwe, YQ Isolate and others in the Nigerian Hip-Pop scene. Da Grin is a three-time Hip-Pop Awards nominee; he was nominated in the Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Rap Album categories of the 2010 Hip-Hop World Awards. He won the Best Rap Album category (posthumous).
On April 14th, Da Grin paid a visit to the Hip Hop World office at Ikeja, the awards were drawing closer and with three nominations to his name, his dream was finally coming true. However, this was not to be as he was involved in a ghastly motor accident a few hours later.

HIS DEATH
Da Grin passed away on Thursday, 22nd of April, 2010 from injuries sustained from a ghastly motor accident that took place on Wednesday, 14th April, 2010 when he rammed his black Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE with a customised number plate DaGrin 03 into a stationary truck parked in front of Alakara Police station, Mushin, Lagos.

After the accident, he was rushed to Tai Solarin Hospital, Mushin from where he was later transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Even though the doctors were on strike at that time, he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit, operated on but died eight days later. He was just 26 years old. His death came as a rude shock to both the Nigerian entertainment industry and the public; he had 4,930 friends on facebook.

His death raised many questions; would he have lived if the doctors were not on strike and probably showed more commitment, or would he still be living if he was taken somewhere else, a private hospital maybe or been flown him abroad where he would have had access to the equipments needed to treat him?

Not long after his death, one of his singles, ‘If I Die’, which was not released before his death was all over the internet. Even though he sounded philosophical, many who have listened to that song say it was rather too deep and spiritual. His fans believe he may have had a premonition about his death; that why he left that parting song for his fans was to let them how he wanted them to carry on after his death. Here is an excerpt from the song, “If I die, if I die, make you no cry for me. E jen simi, ejo keje ki n mi…Ko le ye won, ko le ye won…” meaning (“If I die, if I die, don’t cry / mourn me. Let me rest in peace, please let me breathe…They can’t understand…”).
THE BIOPIC
This month (April), fans of Da Grin will be offered a closer view of the life and times of their idol in a biopic titled ‘Ghetto Dreamz, which was created to immortalise him. Before his death, he was one of the hottest items on the Nigerian music scene; his popular style of rapping in English and Yoruba languages earned him the respect of colleagues, who have paid tributes to his artistry.

After his death and before the biopic, a group of Nigerian artistes featuring Eldee, Waje, Jah Bless, Ruggedman and Jaywon recorded a song titled ‘My Pain’ to honour him. Sound Sultan and M.I. also recorded tribute songs also to honour him.
Directed by Daniel Ademinokan and produced by Ope Banwo, Chief Executive Producer of Stingomania 360, Ghetto Dreamz is a chronicle of Da Grin’s rise to stardom; it also tells the story of his life and struggles. In the Biopic, we see how the rapper dropped out of school, ended up in a slum in Lagos and started hustling at the popular Computer Village (IT market) before releasing his first album, ‘Still on the Matter’, which didn’t make much impact in the music industry. The scene with his car just before the crash, set against the song ‘Ghetto Dreamz’ was quite moving. The same car he crashed in was used in the biopic. The movie also revealed his softer side–his love life–of which very little was known, as well as his family.
Apart from immortalizing Da Grin, Ghetto Dreamz will give his family an opportunity to benefit from his efforts. In an exclusive interview with Hi Magazine, Comrade Olaniyi Abolaji Olanipekun, Da Grin’s father revealed that the family has not received any honorariums from his tracks and other ‘collabos’ that were released when he died. According to him, “Nobody has given the family any kobo from the proceeds they got from releasing his songs. In fact, the guy who released ‘If I die’ the same night Da Grin died claimed he did it out of emotions. As I speak, he hasn’t given the family anything. He is out there enjoying the money and taking care of his own family”.”Even the tribute songs done to honour him… the songs should have been handed over to the family… so we can benefit from it. Rather the artistes are the ones making money out of it. That is not the way it should be”, he added.

Trybson Dudukoko a musician on the books of Stingomania 360 will star as Da Grin. The role of his mother went to Rachael Oniga, while Kayode Odumosu (Pa Kasumu) and Doris Simeon got the roles of his father and girlfriend respectively.
The trailer of the film had already been released and the movie which is speculated to have cost over N7 million is set to hit theatres and cinemas on the 22nd of April, one year anniversary of his death. Whether this biopic will do justice to Da Grin’s life is yet to be seen.
From me to Da Grin, “Olenu bi, Pon pon pon”! Rest in Peace

Watchout for a New Single From Eva"TONIGHT" ft Goldie.Drops 22nd April,2011

EVA is a singer and is not a new comer to the music industry of Nigeria. Since 1998 she has been gradually making her way in and out of Nigeria with her smooth but yet powerful and husky vocals. In 2006 she caught the eye of the media and the public, putting a face to the name EVA with her deep and soulful single “No Cry’’- a classical piece that speaks to the fading optimism of the Nigerian people regarding the deteriorating state of the nation. The single got her a bag full of award nominations. EVA has since been dishing out a few singles like NA SO, GOD HAND, MOFEBE and others.

EVA who is fondly called Eva D'Diva by friends is currently working on her upcoming album titled ‘’The Core of Me’’. It is an edgy, exciting and unpredictable piece of work that exposes the person behind the name EVA to people in ways that make it hard to contest the fact that she is indeed a DIVA. She partners with a number of Nigeria’s finest musicians from the likes of BLAISE, GOLDIE, 2SHOTZ, NIGGA RAW, IGHO and so on.

What makes this new single titled TONIGHT produced by TEEKAY WITTY and the Remix by TYRONNE quite special is that it shows EVA stepping out of her usual conservative self as she collabos with controversial artist Goldie to inspire women to take the lead, be active and take charge of the intimacy and romance in their marriages and long term relationships. The song seeks to revive burnt out flares a 21st century lifestyle can cause between a man and a woman.  The song is fun and bouncy as it is sexy and thoughtful.

The song has a House / Techno feel to it that creates a bounce and a feel good emotion... as should be the feeling between a man and a woman in love.

The single is scheduled to be released on the 22nd of April (Good Friday).

Watch out for the download link to the new single come 22nd April 2011. It's Her Good Friday gift to all good music lovers.

SNOOP DOGG SIGNS BLOCK STARZ MUSIC ARTIST LYNDA SAYYAH

Block Starz Music LLC, www.blockstarzmusic.com, is proud to announce the signing of beautiful Indianapolis, Indiana recording artist Lynda Sayyah to rap icon Snoop Dogg's newly-formed Dogg Town Music Group.

Lynda, whose debut single "Tickin'" is featured on Block Starz Music's first all-female compilation, "She Got Next 2011" (June 21), is a trilingual (Spanish, Arabic, and English) singer with 5-octave range. Voted "Indy's Sexiest Musician" by Metromix Magazine, Lynda's sound is a fusion of Pop, Rock, R&B, and contemporary middle eastern melodies combined with lyrics that reflect her own life struggles.

"I come from a very strict Arab-Muslim family," says Lynda, who is of Palestinian and German descent. "I grew up feeling suffocated by double standards against women and just trying to be a normal kid. A lot of my music exudes these struggles and I think a lot of girls of every nationality can relate to me."

Lynda Sayyah's undeniable beauty and talent immediately caught the eyes and ears of Dogg Town Music Group, a new Los Angeles/Long Beach, California-based record company founded in 2010 by Jason "Cup" Brown, his cousin Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus, Charles "Beach Dogg" Howard II, and Shatto Brown, who promptly signed her to the upstart label.

"We are looking for one timers or one-in-a-million talent, meaning talent that can only exist once in a lifetime," says Dogg Town COO Shatto Brown of the decision to sign Lynda as the First Lady Of DTMG. "There can only be one Michael Jackson, one Madonna, one Snoop Dogg, one Metallica -- we only want talent like that. Lynda is every bit of that. She is an amazing vocalist, beautiful, a great songwriter, and she deserves the opportunity to have the world know all of this."

In addition to Lynda Sayyah, the Dogg Town Music roster includes rap artists Poppa Heat, M-Dot, and the label is currently working on a merger with T-Pain's Nappy Boy Productions to release new music acts.

Lynda Sayyah's explosive dance single, "Tickin'", will be available for download on iTunes June 21 as part of Block Starz Music's anticipated "She Got Next 2011" compilation EP.

Tara Priya, "Retro-Soul" Singer/Songwriter, Wins 18th Annual Billboard Song Contest

Tara Priya, a singer/songwriter in the style of retro-soul, has been named a winner in the 18th Annual Billboard Song Contest for her original R&B song "Rollin'". Inspired by The Temptations and Aretha Franklin, this upbeat track features a fresh-voiced Tara singing her troubles away with a little sass and growl.

The great-niece of the famed Middle Eastern poet, Sohrab Sepehri, art is in Tara’s blood. Piano and poetry began at 4, drums at 9; opera training commenced at 11, jazz voice added in high school. After winning two prestigious writing scholarships, Tara switched coasts to attend Columbia University, where she quickly settled down in NYC’s performance circuit.

Anxious to focus solely on music but reluctant to drop out like her Columbia inspirations (Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill), Tara sped through school and graduated in 2.5 years with her BA in Economics. She returned to California to write and record her November 2010 eponymous EP and currently performs in Los Angeles, her native San Francisco, and NYC.

Named 1 of 3 "Pop" finalists in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, in the Top 25 of Nashville's 2010 Music City Songwriting Contest, and a category winner in the 2011 Great American Song Contest, Tara Priya continues to rack up major honors with her recent Billboard win.

Nigerian Born,US based Tunde Olaniran Nominated For “Artist Of The Week” On MTV Iggy

Michigan-based  Nigerian born artist Tunde Olaniran is currently nominated in MTV Iggy’s Artist of The Week Competition. The winner of the competition will receive prime placement on the MTV Iggy homepage and stay there for the whole week! Voting ends on Monday night, April 11th, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. USA Eastern Standard Time.

MTV Iggy reviewed Tunde Olaniran’s Electro futurism: “ As stylistically and vocally unfettered, and well-equipped with old-school flow and R&B chops, he’s got a classic sensibility. However, he points it in all in the direction of the future with riveting delivery and never glances backward. Part of the futuristic feel comes from his stripped-down, D.I.Y. approach. It feels raw and new because there’s never anything between you and the song. Oh, and the lyrics are deep.”

“I’m honored to be nominated in the MTV Iggy Competition for “Artist of The Week!”, shared Tunde Olaniran. “No matter the outcome of the competition, it’s already a small victory.

Dakar Meeting Establishes Framework For The West African Music Network

West African Network (WAN), a common regional database of musical works and audiovisual works to which the different national databases will be connected.

Chief Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation's sole government approved copyright collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings, returned to the country on Sunday, February 20, after a four day visit to Dakar. Chief Okoroji was in Dakar to represent Nigeria at the consultative meeting on the Development Agenda Project for Enhancing and Networking of Collective Management Organizations in West Africa which held on February 17th and 18th. at the Senegalese capital. The meeting was organized under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nation's specialized agency for intellectual property matters and the Government of the Republic of Senegal. Participants included the Chief Executive Officers and key leaders of Copyright Offices and Organizations from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo.
The strong team to the meeting from the World Intellectual Property Organization was led by Assistant Director-General, Trevor Clarke and included Simon Ouedraogo, Senior Adviser (WIPOCOS Project) and Andrew TU, Chief Advisor on information technology. The Government of Senegal was represented by Moussa KA, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Leisure.
The meeting agreed on the framework for the setting up of the West African Network (WAN), a common regional database of musical works and audiovisual works to which the different national databases will be connected with agreed information seamlessly uploaded. The objective is to provide worldwide access to musical works in the region so that they are better exploited in a way that owners of the works recieve appropriate payments for such exploitation. Ultimately, WAN aims at the inter-connection of national, regional and international database networks that have the same goals. Also discussed at the Dakar meeting were issues relating to the licensing of musical works and the registration of authors, performing artists, publishers and producers within the region.
Speaking during the recent visit to COSON of the new Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Afam Ezekude, Chief Okoroji said, "The Dakar meeting was a watershed event. The birth of WAN creates tremendous opportunity for each of our artistes to have his or her work available on an international shop window so that the work can be used anywhere in the world with royalties paid to the artiste whenever the work is used and wherever the artiste may be. The challenge for us as a nation is to have a database that properly captures the millions of information necessary for Nigeria to play a key role in this emerging platform. Other nations in the region started working on their databases long before us. It was only last year, with the government approval of COSON, that we began the building of a national database of musical works with WIPO assistance. The task is huge considering the size of the repertoire in Nigeria. At COSON, we are mobilizing every resource we can because this is a task that we must accomplish for the future of Nigerian music. It is important to inform every artiste in Nigeria that they need to do whatever is necessary to ensure that their works are captured in the COSON database or they may find themselves locked out from the important income stream that collective management will represent as the world becomes increasingly digital. It is that serious."
It will be recalled that the World Intellectual Property Organization sent a technical team to COSON in July 2010 which spent a week at COSON installing the important WIPOCOS software for the database of musical works and distribution of royalties. The WIPO mission also conducted training for COSON personel some of who have had to travel outside the country since to receive additional technical training.

HARRYSONG ALBUM RELEASE PARTY REVIEW.

HARRYSONG DELIVERS ALBUM WITH A LIVE BAND.
Only a true and truly fearless ARTIST, would take such a risk – turn the knob up – and challenge the entire industry with an album release party performing with a full set live band backed by his producer on the keyboard. That was the feat Harrysong achieved on the 3rd of April 2011 at Club Luxe, Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island Lagos. He did this in front of a packed and sweating capacity crowd of over 1,000 holding up their hands and cell phones.

Harrysong is a fast rising singer, before the new CD titled Testify that was released on that day at Club Luxe. Harrysong is described as King of Melody and the go-to man for voice coaching and songwriting. The sensation co-produced star actress cum singer Omotola Jalade’s album with Ayodele ‘Del b’ Basil, voice coaching, back up vocals and co producing for artistes including Darey, Olu Maintain, labelmates – d’Supremes and Ego Omalicha.

The doors was open a few minutes after 7PM, with a crowd of fans gathered at the door – trying to get into the venue. After an extended grey carpet sessions with the selected media houses [event was exclusively covered by Soundcity, Nigezie, Da New Live Beat and Real TV], that featured the musician of the night – Harrysong, Sammie Okposo, Retta, ipp, Orezi, Igho, Lerato (big Brother alumni), Ogyny and others like M.I., Banky W and Tuface making it to the after party.
Harrysong made his entry into the venue, to take a breather at the VIP lounge of the venue – chit chatting with guests and colleagues.

Afterwards, Harrysong heated up Club Luxe Sunday Night, featuring his band banging bongos, slapping the base, pounding drums and wailing on the synthesizer – Into his first session, he called up respected gospel singer Sammie Okposo who without rehearsal performed with the live band and sang praises of the Warri bred host.

Harrysong left the sight of the audience afterwards with performances from DJ Humility that happened in the midst of cheers from the guest as he mixed hit records after records then Orezi and a female duo took the stage.

Refreshed Harrysong in new attire emerged for the concluding set of his live band session. This time, he appeared with Sound Sultan, KC Presh, Baba Dee, d’Supremes and Sammie Okposo. The artistes took turn to perform with the live band – it was indeed reminiscence of a ‘birthday’ celebration like Harrysong announced in his performance.

Rather, Harrysong sang from his heart, and expressed his appreciation for the crowd constantly. After thousands joined in for “Testify,” the opener from his just-released major label debut, Testify, now Harrysong beamed as he thanked everyone for paying attention to this long-delayed debut.

When he closed the night with his remake and proper hit, “I want you” which he originally performed with labelmates – d’Supremes and Ego on Gyptian’s hold yuh beat, He – unusually didn’t ripped off his top to reveal his trimmed body and to race around the stage – into the crowd, joining the crowd to chant the anthem’s massive hook. It was an energetic coda that underlined just how mellow and modest the gig had been — no crazy light spectacles or thunder-stealing special guests in the release proper (It was otherwise in the after party), minimal requests for crowd participation and no synchronized dances.

Harrysong’s Testify album is now in stores and selling on the streets. Digital copies would be available for sale soon.

Toni Payne finally talk about her break up with 9ice

Its such a sad story of deceit and convertiousness, I fee this is just one side of the story, but this is Toni Payne's interview on how her marriage to 9ice fell Over.

Q: Did u hear d gist making d rounds dat a lady in Abuja just delivered twins for ur husband?
Yes I did

Q: Rumor has it that 9ice went into that affair because you went into a new relationship, how true is that?
That is not true, he has been in that relationship before we separated. In fact the day I found out about it, I confronted her over the phone and she reported me to him. He came to fight me because of that and later called his parents (Alhaji Azeez Akande, Tawa Oshodi) to come and pack me and my son out of the house.

Q: Some ave alleged dat she was d one who broke ur marriage. Is this true?
Yes she was the main reason along with issues with his family. All that ruggedman story was rubbish, I'm not even attracted to ruggedman cos he is like a brother to me. Aside that, his manager was feeding his parents false stories about me cos he wanted me out of the picture cos he thot I wanted his job and also his brother Dr Wale Akande convinced them I was after his property because I stopped d brother from continuing with building our house after noticing some monies where unaccounted for. Mind you I met my husband when he was struggling, none of his family members sent him then. We were staying in my family house and his apt with Jahbless in Ikorodu and I loved him regardless, so what property could I have been after? I toiled night and day with him so why would I want to cheat him. The parents would come to the house to fight me, yelling curses, trying to frustrate me out of the house, the mother tore my dress one day and I ran for mine and my sons safety. This caused a lot of tension in our relationship but instead of him to stand by me he ran to another woman.

Q: What was ur reaction to the twins news wen you heard it? Were u angry? Did u call him to ask about that news of a woman having a child for him?
Yes I was understandably angry because from day 1 he knows I don't want polygamy for my children if I can avoid it and also cos I felt he shud have divorced me first and married her before engaging in such. Like what example is he setting for his son. Lastly I felt if he would impregnate anyone it should not be the woman who broke our home.

Q: Why have u been quiet all this while about your marriage break up?
I tried very hard to protect him even when people rubbished me.  I never said OK he was the one who messed up because I felt he would be wise and consider my sons interest, when taking life changing decisions that could affect Zion. A part of me wanted to believe he would never put his own bloods future at stake for cheap thrills. I changed my mind about talking when I read a recent paper and noticed his manager was already trying to twist things to make it look like he moved on and got someone pregnant cos I'm engaged, I'm NOT engaged, so I just felt enough is enough, I don't know why they must always bring my name up to justify their mistakes. I had to ask myself, Why am I protecting a man who continues to make me look bad to protect himself. I felt it was time to be true to myself and quit deceiving myself that he will soon feel remorse for his actions.

Q: Was it because you wanted reconciliation?
No, I just felt I should protect him because I guess a stupid part of me still loved him and felt he would come to his senses and at least do right by my son even if we never reconcile. At d end of the day I'm human and have emotions too, guess I never predicted things would get this bad.

Q: For the very 1st time, can you tell me what broke your marriage?
Simple: 3 things broke my marriage: His family's interference, His Manager's interference and His affair with Vicky Godis

Q: Whose fault, your or his fault?
I can't say I was perfect, but I NEVER cheated on him. I was pregnant and later nursing the entire time we were married. Also, before I got married I knew what being loyal is, I also knew there is no way I would ever cheat on my husband. Its not my way. Yeah I would get angry when he cheated on me, I felt it was a normal reaction when you love someone and they are doing things to hurt you but still I never left him. The separation was not my idea. My son was 11 months old, a week before his 1st birthday, his parents threw us out. My son spent his birthday in a hotel. I was sitting in my house when his parents came, they packed my things and my sons things into my car, I have pictures I took as evidence and I drove off with my son to a friends hotel in VI where I stayed for 3 weeks. Meanwhile he was with Vicky in Abuja while it was happening.

Q: Is it true you have asked for Divorce
Yes, I have. He is yet to file. If he is so sure he doesn't want to be married he should have no problems divorcing me. Allow me move on and give my son a family life he deserves.

Q: Do u see room for reconciliation?
I am not God so I can't say yes or no but he has hurt me too deeply to just go back. It would take a lot of healing, although i've moved on forgetting the pains is not that easy. At the end of the day, only God know where our future is headed.

Q: Some accuse you of forcing yourself on him and that you are older than him and that he couldn't just say no
I never forced myself on him. He did all the chasing, even when I said I can't marry a musician, he never stopped, he kept assuring me that if he got famous he would not change and I trusted him. What people don't know is we got engaged in November 2007, even before Gongo Aso became a hit, some said its because I was pregnant, that is not true, I got pregnant 5 months after we picked a wedding date. I am not older than him, that report is also false. He is older than me.

Q: Can you let us into how u fell in love wit 9ice? Who toasted who? Did u make the 1st move or he did?
He toasted me, I resisted in the beginning because I did not want a musician boyfriend, I later agreed because I felt he was sweet and sincere. How he changed so much is what I'm not sure of. Maybe bad advisers around him.

Q: How did you feel when the news broke that you are dating ruggedman/ Did u ever date him?
I have said this hundreds of times, I Never dated Ruggedman, I was never caught with Ruggedman or any other man. At first I did not take it serious because I knew it was a lie. Iv known ruggedman longer than any guy in the industry, we have always been friends but never dated. Till date, we have been and still are  like brother and sister. That ruggedman story was a terrible attempt to destroy my reputation. I'm not loose, I don't sleep around, I don't jump from man to man, I know the consequences of cheating so why would I engage in it. Why would I build with a man, when I know I still want to play around. Why would I destroy my home carelessly. I'm not stupid. That makes no sense to me. I thank God I have a fighting spirit because I did not let the lies or insults bring me down.

Q: How did u meet 9ice? For how long did you date before marriage?
I first saw him in Oct 2006, he came to back ruggedman up at Gbenga Adeyinka's Anniversary. We dint hook up till the following year. I went back to the states and we would chat online and talk on the phone for hours. We got married in July 2008.

Q: How true is the story that you were too overbearing on him?
I do not think I was overbearing. I wanted the best for him so yeah I may push him to strive for the best. I don't think that's a bad thing or something worth breaking a marriage over.

Q: How come it didn't work out
It takes 2 to make a marriage work, if one party insist they don't want it to work it will cripple any effort made by anyone. The mistake I made was entering with my heart and not my head. I should have taken his family background seriously and made 100% sure he had the same family values as me.

Q: Let's get to know about ur growing up years Where were you born?
Though my family decent is Ogun state, I'm a Lagos baby. My childhood was fun, grew up and only child but had a lot of cousins to play with. Let's say I had a sound childhood.

Q: How about your growing up years and Schools attended?
I shuttled between America and naija as a child and till now so I attended primary n secondary in both countries but finished my university education at California state university north ridge

Q: Having studied in the US, what professional/education courses did you take?
I studied video digital art

Q: Your parents how did they influence you, It seems you are closer to your mum?
They taught me to be very open in all I do. Yes my mum and I are close, shez always been there for me.

Q: Your career choice, Why showbiz?
Showbiz is something I stumbled into since about 1999. I started it as a hobby and eventually turned it into a business. I'm happy I did.

Q: You are into  Modeling Music and Beauty how did u find yourself in all these?
Life has drawn me into everything I do now. Something always transpires that leads me to my calling. Plus I'm a business minded person, very driven and don't mind getting my hands wet in new ventures.

Q: How do you cope with managing artistes? People say that can be wild
I am blessed with artists that don't engage in bad activities so I count myself lucky.

Q: Tell us about your label. How many artistes do you manage?
I currently manage three artists; Adol, Zara and Olamide and all three are focused people. Olamide and Adol just released their albums titled Rapsodi and Orin, respectively. Zara is currently working on her debut album

Q:  Did you ever manage 9ice How did you cope fitting the 2 roles?
I took care of his international relations as well as some PR. I did it because I wanted him to succeed not because he hired mee or was paying me. Its what I love doing plus I was very passionate about his music so it came easy

Q: Marrying a star means u coping with his female admirers. How did u cope?
Well, I'm in the industry as well so I know it comes with the territory. It didn't bother me so far he kept it professional.

Q: What are your full names? Toni Payne sounds oyinbo, How come?
(laughs) Toni is short for Antonia and Payne is my last name. My Yoruba name is Seun

Q: How come you and his manager don't get along?
He disliked me because he felt I wanted his job. I believe it was ignorance disturbing him. I wasn't interested in his job. I just wanted to be helpful to the process by contributing my knowledge. Guess he knew he was horrible at his job hence the insecurities. For me I dint care who managed him so far the person was doing a great job.

Q: When the news broke dat you were marrying 9ice in 2008 many felt you rushed him. Did you?
In 2008, no we did not rush. We were engaged before he got popular so because the marriage took place around the time people started appreciating him, they felt it was a new decision when it wasn't.

Q:  Then Zion came isn't dat a rush?
No, I was of age and so was he. We discussed it before, its just because everything was happening around the same time people wanted to know more about him. It wasn't a new decision at all or something that just happened. No.

Q:  Is it true that this lady that had kids for 9ice has always been 9ices girlfriend before you came into the picture?
(laughs) No, that is not true. My husband met her a few months before our separation. I believe in September 2009 or thereabouts. Her name is  Vicky "Bukky" Godis. She works at ECOWAS in Abuja.

Q: What  id being a mother change in you
It made me more tolerant at the same time more protective. A mother son love is unique. Very special feeling.

Q: Any regrets about how your marriage went?
In life there are always two sides to things. People never gave me a chance before judging me. I received so many insults, hate mail over something I did not do. It was painful knowing I was innocent yet a lot were quick to crucify me. Ill just say to those who judged me blindly, may God forgive you. Next time find out facts before castigating an innocent person. In Nigeria women are usually judged unfairly and this act has to stop. Its very very unfair.

Seriously, If Toni's claims in this interview are true, then 9ice is an IDIIOOOOOOTTTT. I know the part of the breakup sounds true, but this shows that the initial relationship wasnt based on TRUE LOVE, it was based on something that eventually faded away. Do you think shes real?
