EXCLUSIVE- VTEK's album-mixtape snippets released
Nigerian born 20yrs old Vtek release few snippets from his fundraising album-mixtape "An Album called Mixtape" dropping next year 2011.
Vtek a young Nigerian based emerging producer and artist invite fans to be part of his dream and quest in making history when he drop the highly anticipated mixtape- album "An Album Called Mixtape" aimed at raising funds for his crew M.V.E international project " Revolution Network".
First Single from the Mixtape-Album is scheduled to be premiere worldwide come 1st of January 2011 as the new year gift. The young producer/artist said i named the mixtape "An Album Called Mixtape" b'cuz it's an album actually but showcasing different part of me on various innovative beats with captivating songs. I'm dropping it as a Mixtape-Album cuz it's has a mission.
Over 200 Officials review had been received on the Mixtape-Album from Music Head from across the global and the numbers of reviews still counting and it's awesome like the artist nickname Vtek aka Mr.Awesome.
One of the review predict Vtek to emerge as Africa's biggest hip hop export for 2011 when the Mixtape Album drop. "This is more that a mixtape, the name make it right an Album and not a Mixtape. I'm seeing Vtek as the biggest hip hop export from Africa in the coming year."- Hip hop Voice :Mike Hopper
The Story of the Fundraising Mixtape Album
Vtek's crew M.V.E debut single “Search” online make it to over 400 internet radio stations, earning notable radio airplay and attention in the U.S. and across Europe.
A good starting point and huge success that ought to brought them to limelight after earning spotlight artist features on world's leading major music sites like World Top40 Charts, World Hip hop Market, Billboard and many more. But in a sagging economy with a recording industry in transition give the M.V.E no change to excel offline as they did online with no support and enough financial back up.
The 20 years old producer/artist then took it on upon himself to produce and release an album-mixtape to raise fund for his crew project. The Revolution Network is a pet campaign project of M.V.E his crew including a free digital radio station that will broadcasting live on the internet and on mobile via a special application on SmartPhones.
The Revolution Network will be offering free hype and promotion for artists with good songs, free hosting and presentation from talented presenters and DJs. The Crew will also be releasing an album and go on a global tour to raise fund for the less privilege.

How To Escape From A Music Business Mess
The importance of including an "Escape Clause" in every music business contract that you intend to sign that lasts for a period of time
Could you picture, as a creative person or entity such as an Artist, Band or Songwriter, being signed with a person or company who can't advance your career? Maybe, they're even one of those people who signs everyone they can who they think can succeed - and then sit back and do nothing -waiting for you to do it all on your own. But you can bet they'll be there when the money starts to come in.
The fact is, you will find that in most Contracts, it usually states what one side of the table must do - but not the other side! A good example is a Recording Contract, where, if you read between the lines, it never promises they will ever release the Music you've recorded - but you can bet it says what You must do!
Another example may be an Artist Management Contract where it will state what an Artist must do for their Manager and their career, but not what a Manager must do for their Artist - or it's very vague. It may say something like "the Manager will use reasonable effort…" And who is to decide what "reasonable" means?
These are just a few examples of quite a few Music Industry Contracts that vary in length for different amounts of time, whether it may be a Management Agreement for 5 years, a Recording Contract for a bunch of albums or "periods", or a Songwriter's Agreement, where the Publisher may own a song for life, or quite a few other types of contracts with varying lengths. There are even contracts that have no definite ending explicitly stated - and you're stuck for an insane length of time in a horrible situation - maybe even for life!
The point is, if there are "performance clauses" in your contract, where you have to perform tasks and duties that live up to their expectations, why can't you add performance clauses where they also have to live up to at least reasonable expectations.
To the point: You must have an escape plan - a way to escape from a bad situation - before it gets any worse!
That is, you should have what is usually known as an "Escape Clause" [sometimes known as a "Release Clause" or "Reversion Clause" - depending on the type contract]. And you should have one in any and every contract you're intending to sign that lasts for a period of time, so that in case the person or company you've signed with can't or doesn't do their job, you can legally break the contract - and escape!
In effect, an escape clause is a "performance clause" that insures that the person offering the contract performs their job - and performs it well.
A well, written escape clause contains these three elements:
1. A specific, reachable goal or goals that you wish to reach, and,
2. A specific time in which to reach that goal, or,
3. You can be released early from your contract if the goal isn't met in that specified time period - and all your rights revert back to you.
Here's a simply worded example of an escape clause:
"Manager promises that, if within 18 months of the signing date of the Agreement, Artist has not received a recording contract from a Record Company, then Artist may ask to be released from the contract".
Therefore, if it's a five year contract, for example, you have a chance to get out of it much earlier if the Manager doesn't do their job.
But, wait a minute! There's a major problem with that so-called "escape clause" I just gave you! As I stated, it must be specific! The way it's written above, your Manager's mom could start a record company (which is very easy to do), and you won't get to sign with that Indie or Major Label you always dreamed about! What it should say is (for example): "… a nationally recognized and internationally distributed Recording Company, such as…" - and list the Major or Indie Labels you'll accept.
Let's look at a Songwriting Agreement. A must is the "reversion clause" which should at least state something like, "if your Song is not commercially recorded and released through a legitimate, nationally recognized and distributed Recording Company within a certain period of time, [usually one year to 18 months], ownership and all rights to the Song, Revert back to you - that is, they become yours again.
Or with a Record Company it should state something like, "If your recording is not released nationally and internationally through normally recognized retail channels in physical and digital formats, within one year, you can ask to be released from your Agreement - and they must allow you to leave.
By the way, you can also ask for continuing goals to be reached at different specific time periods. And you should always make sure that, if you sign more than one contract with the same person or company, that if one contract ends - they all end at the same time!
To sum it up: No matter how great the person or contract seems, safeguard it by having a Music Business Contract Specialist, such as myself or an Entertainment Attorney, insert a well written "Escape" or "Release" clause. In plain language - an escape clause can save your ass!
Senate Judiciary Committee Reports Piracy Bill Official Statements by the RIAA, DiMA, NMPA, Public Knowledge, AFTRA-DGA-IATSE-SAG and MPAA
The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted unanimously to advance the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (S. 3804), colloquially known as COICA, introduced by Chairman Patrick Leahy and senior Republican member Orrin Hatch. This legislation will enable the Department of Justice to shut down "rogue websites" that specialize in providing unauthorized downloads, streaming, or sale of copyrighted content and counterfeit goods.
Statement from Mitch Bainwol, Chairman and CEO, RIAA: "We are proud to lend our voice to the chorus of supporters of this important bipartisan legislation. In a world where hackers and copyright thieves are able to take down websites, rip off American consumers and rake in huge profits operating rogue businesses built on the backs of the American creative community, the committee has taken a strong step toward fostering a more safe and secure online experience for consumers. With this first vote, Congress has begun to strike at the lifeline of foreign scam sites, while protecting free speech and boosting the legal online marketplace."
Statement from Lee Knife, Interim Executive Director of the Digital Media Association (DiMA): "DiMA commends Chairman Leahy for his efforts to combat online piracy. Websites that have no other purpose than to engage in copyright infringement pose a serious threat to our member companies, who pay royalties for the right to legally distribute music, videos, books and other forms of digital entertainment online."
"It is important for digital media innovators that any legislative effort to thwart online piracy is not so far-reaching as to trigger unintended negative consequences for legitimate online services, and we are therefore pleased with some of the changes Senator Leahy has made to the bill, including elimination of the proposed "DOJ blacklist" and addition of a "savings clause". However, the legislation still lacks clear definitions on some key terms and meaningful standards that would protect law-abiding companies from possible harm. We are hopeful Congress will address these concerns prior to the reintroduction and consideration of the legislation in the 112th Congress."
Statement from David Israelite, President and CEO of the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA): "Music publishers and songwriters today applaud the work of the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance legislation that takes on digital theft. This growing and complex problem affects a multitude of American industries and it's time for our federal policy to catch up. This reasonable bill gives federal law enforcement much-needed tools to help them effectively go after and shut down web site operators that profit illegally from the work of others. Although this is just one step in a lengthy process, it is a welcome and important signal that a strong, bipartisan majority is working together to move this bill forward."
Statement of Gigi B. Sohn, president and co-founder of Public Knowledge: "We are disappointed that the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning chose to disregard the concerns of public-interest groups, Internet engineers, Internet companies, human-rights groups and law professors in approving a bill that could do great harm to the public and to the Internet. We look forward to working with the Committee next year to craft a more narrowly tailored bill that deals with the question of rogue Web sites."
The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), Directors Guild of America (DGA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada (IATSE), and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) released the following statement: "Our four guilds and unions commend the Senate Judiciary Committee for unanimously reporting S.3804, the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act, and recommending the bill for consideration and passage by the full Senate. The bill, introduced by Chairman Patrick Leahy together with a bipartisan group of seventeen senators, will give U.S law enforcement agencies more effective tools to fight the foreign profiteers who threaten our member's livelihoods by trafficking in stolen content.
"Together, we represent more than 300,000 film, TV, and recording artists and craftspeople in the entertainment and media industries. There are many voices in this debate but we believe few have a more real stake in the outcome than our members. That is why protecting the films, television shows, sound recordings and other content made by our members and enjoyed by audiences around the world is all the more urgent given the monumental and unchecked growth of Internet theft in recent years. The forsaken jobs and looted revenues that are so casually disregarded by both the operators of rogue sites and those who seek to protect their illegal activity reflect real wages, residuals, benefits and opportunities lost to our members forever thanks to those who knowingly and purposely traffic in Internet theft."
Statement from Bob Pisano, President and Interim CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA): "These rogue sites exist for one purpose only: to make a profit using the Internet to distribute the stolen and counterfeited goods and ideas of others. The economic impact of these activities—millions of lost jobs and dollars—is profound. That's why dozens of labor organizations and businesses groups have come together to support the bill approved by the Judiciary Committee.
"The operators of these sites use a variety of means to facilitate their goals - advertising, rentals, sales and charges for premium services. They are commonly assisted—sometimes unwittingly-- by American companies whose ads are placed on the sites by brokers. They are also often aided by enterprises that provide the financial services for their schemes.
"As Sen. Leahy has noted, these are the 'worst of the worst' online websites. The operators of these sites knowingly break the law, harm the American economy, deprive American intellectual property owners of their rights, cost American jobs and, in the case of counterfeit prescription drugs, potentially threaten the health and welfare of American consumers.
When will our Music heads take this kind of action. All we always heard are just noise and not much effective action. I know E no easy sha.

Mr. Incredible -M.I premiere album and movie on November 24 and 25
M.I ‘s album and movie premiere
It is no longer news that MI is set for his premiere launch into the Nollywood scene.Confirmation from the Chocolate City camp, revealed that the movie arm of the company (Chocolate City Pictures) will be staging a grand premiere event at the Silverbird Galleria Lagos on November 24 and 25. A later date will be announced for the Abuja priemiere.
The premiere, a two day event will host industry personalities across the music and movie circles in a special feature on the first day and the doors will be thrown open to selected and lucky fans; this special viewing will happen ahead of a formal release of the movie into the market for the general public.
Special guest appearances will be fellow Nollywood stars; Jim Iyke, Genevieve Nnaji , Ghanian actress Nana Appiah and Yinka Davies. MI , born Jude Abaga, introduced himself unto the music scene with his debut album “Talk about it” in 2008 , this launched him to a notable position in the industry, making signature appearances at high networth events and walking away with local and international awards .
Music’s soul child Femi Adeyinka is back with a distinct RnB sound.
Tenacious, ambitious and passionate are three words which best describe Femi Adeyinka’s love for music. A conversation with the upcoming singer reveals an undying desire to carve a niche for himself in the blossoming Nigeria entertainment scene. Shortly after moving back to Nigeria last year, Adeyinka proved that he was one RnB act to watch out for.
His singles ‘ Never Felt Love like This’, ‘Baby I got it’ (money) feat Eedris Abdulkareem and ‘Ma pa mi’ feat Ego have earned rave reviews for the upcoming singer thus kicking off his musical career on a high note. The Westminister College Business Management graduate spent his formative years in the US where his musical skills were honed. Easily compared to the likes of Joe, Usher and Jodeci in terms of singing, Adeyinka sheds light on his mission.
Why did you decide to come back to Nigeria?
I came back home because I have not been here in a long time. My parents have been there to see me but it is different , I just felt the need to come home. My cousin Gbenga Adeyinka listened to my music in the US he encouraged me to come home and check out the music industry to see how far it has grown.
How did you get involved in music?
Some people say that they started music as a kid or inside their mother’s womb but music for me started as a dancer. I used to be a dancer in the states for shows and I was part of a dance crew in high school. I have always sang but never sang for people to hear. Then I did a talent show in high school, my friends and I did a song , but wasn’t serious about it , it was during this that one of the teachers pulled me aside abd advised me to hone my skills as a singer , all I could say then was ‘me a Nigerian my parents will kill me’! .
Then I got into the university I joined a group called ‘4thcoming’ made up of 4 guys, and I haven’t looked back since then. I know I studied business management not music but a lot of times it is called music business so music is something I love to do but it still has a business side to it.
There have been quite a number of Nigerian returnees, what do you think stands you out of the pack?
I do pure RnB and I feel good music which still falls under the rhythm and blues genre but I can do pop and everything. I have an edge because this (music) is what I was made to do. Not trying to be cocky as well ,I think I have what it takes to be if you listen to my music which is an edge. I am exposed and it helps to be exposed. I have been out there, I understand music I know how it works there and I have brought it back home here to Nigeria.
You got signed on to Kennis Music shortly after you moved back to Nigeria, wasn’t this rather fast?
I have heard that a couple of times but Kennis Music and I chose each other for a lot of reasons. That I got the sign-on so fast and that there a lot of people who are still knocking on the door .I joined them for the right reasons, I believe they believe in talent and when they see one they go for it. Kennis music is the number one label in Nigeria and Africa so signing with them is like a dream come true for me. I remember I was trying to sign with them a few years ago in America when 2face was on the peak of his game .I remembered my cousin (Gbenga Adeyinka) was trying to introduce me to them then but they didn’t show me any face (laughs) so I think everything happened for a reason. I chose Kennis Music because they know what they are doing they have proved themselves over and over. They have the platform , my dad used to say ,if you want to be an A student you have to hang with A students so if you want to be the best you have to with the best, they are the best in the industry and will remain the best. I signed with them was because they didn’t want me to change who I was.
Do you think the Nigerian market is ready to appreciate RnB?
I really believe we are ready for RnB because it’s about how you present yourself to the market .The industry is changing and you can tell by the number of artistes around. The next biggest music industry in the world is Nigeria .You have the likes of Psquare, M.I , getting BET nominations which is huge. So I think everyone is ready for that RnB sound. Everyone listens to Joe, Usher so the question is , are we ready to accept one of our own doing this?
Prior to moving back to Nigeria what were you doing in the states?
When I was in the US ,I worked at an after school programme for kids aged 6-12 ,I was in charge of curriculum and I was doing music at the same time.
Is an album in the works?
It’s a self titled album because I want people to know that is me that you are getting. It also helps to start out with a self titled album so people will get to know you better. We are still in the studio trying to pick out which tracks will make the album but I am looking at 16 tracks. I am working with my family in that States , ‘Surefire Music Group’, and in Nigeria Sunny aka the MasterKraft. Wole Oni and Jaysleek .
Your track ‘Never felt a love like this’, is it based on your experience(s)?
Yes it was inspired by a lot of past experiences . When I was in the studio , I was so bent on writing a song that will stand the test of time . When some people first heard the song , they said it’s too foreign .So I did a song with Ego Labaja which had some Yoruba to balance it.When I signed on to Kennis Music ,that was the song they wanted and the response has been great ever since.
What are the downsides of the Nigerian music industry?
Everyone says piracy but piracy is everywhere .What we lack is structure , a structure that will enable people to make a living because music is a career , not just a hobby. I think it will do a lot of good when begin to see music as a career , this will encourage them .Even in the States where you have the structure, it is still not easy for an upcoming artsite but it is better because one still see a light at the end of the tunnel but here in Nigeria it is still dim.

Glo Naija Sings; Ekeng, Najite in shocking exit
It was shock and later disbelief last Sunday as two of the finest stars in the Glo Naija Sings had to leave. The manner of their exit was as dramatic as it could be.
Anchor of the event, Olisa Adibua, having identified Boma, Ekeng and Najite as in the bottom three among the seven contestants, and then proceeded by asking Boma to read what was in the result envelope.
Many had thought that Boma was on her way out and was just going to read that out to the audience. Alas! She was saved! And the shocker? Both Ekeng and Najite were sent home by their supporters who failed to back them with enough votes to keep them in the show.
In a matter of minutes, the duo changed status from being contestants to being part of the audience. But before then, Ekeng had told the world to wait for him to explode soon as he would be releasing a single next year. Najite gave a similar promise as she said her story would not end just like that.
With the exit of these two, only Peace, Boma, Rasine, Da Brodas and Casey remained to fight for the viewers’ votes for the $ 100,000 and the brand new RAV 4 added by Globacom as icing on the cake for the winner.
This weekend, the excitement is getting hotter with the remaining five contestants doing songs from Fela’s collections.
